Tilllate.com Comment: Support the Ministry of Sound

In 2011, Ministry of Sound and its regulars fought and won a difficult battle to save their club. The team were not complacent, knowing future challenges were in the pipe and that next time they would have to fight harder than ever. They were right.

In 2012, London’s iconic clubbing venue faces the threat of closure all over again and the word has gone out to the fans and everyone who helped last time around; this time the fight will be fiercer, and more difficult. It’s all hands on deck this time.

The new threat comes from London Mayor Boris Johnson, who is about to grant planning permission for luxury flats opposite the world renowned club. If and when they are built, these will force one of electronic music’s landmark venues to close, at a loss to the industry of one of its crown jewels, eliminating a 20 year history of greatness and, most appalling, costing hundreds of people their jobs.

Tilllate.com has been a supporter of Ministry of Sound for as long as we’ve been around. Here, as it faces its biggest fight, we will stand with them.

During last years campaign, some of biggest DJs and musicians in the world, along with 26,000 people who pledged their support, joined the Ministry of Sound campaign to let Southwark Council know that these plans would destroy a cornerstone of the dance music scene and an institution with a global brand. Southwark Council’s Planning Committee voted overwhelmingly to reject the plans, and this was a tremendous victory for the campaigners.

Now the developer has convinced Boris Johnson to “call in” the application and hopes to overturn this democratic decision. Don’t let Boris shut them down

Remember, 2012 is the year of the London Elections. This year the Mayor has to listen. The city will not be the same without Ministry of Sound.
